CDPHP to Launch Behavioral Health Access Center

The care you need is a phone call away.

CDPHP® is making final preparations to launch a new Behavioral Health (BH) Access Center at our Albany headquarters. Staffed by an experienced team of mental health and substance abuse treatment professionals, this service is designed to help you access appropriate mental health and substance abuse care.

Since Jan.1, 2007, CDPHP has partnered with United Behavioral Health (UBH) to coordinate and deliver behavioral health services to our members with this coverage. Now we are working with UBH to ensure a smooth transition of care as we resume responsibility for coordinating these benefits.

Starting on Jan. 1, 2010, CDPHP members will be able to call the BH Access Center at 1-888-320-9584 when the need for a behavioral health provider arises. When a member calls, a clinical intake specialist will collect basic information and determine the urgency for treatment. The member will then be guided to the counseling professional best suited to meet his or her individual needs and preferences.

Primary care physicians may also call the BH Access Center on behalf of a member for guidance in steering the member to the right provider. If necessary, a clinical intake specialist can assist in getting an appointment.

According to Bob Holtz, CDPHP vice president for Behavioral Health Services, “As a physician-guided plan, we want to encourage close ties between our medical professionals and participating mental and behavioral health clinicians. We believe this new service will lead to better, more patient-centered treatment.”

Who do I call? CDPHP group members seeking behavioral health referrals may call 1-888-320-9584. Use that number any time you have a question about your mental health and substance abuse counseling benefits.

What if I am already in treatment? Members already seeing a behavioral health provider may continue that care without seeking a new authorization. If we learn that your provider will not be participating with CDPHP next year, you will be notified about your rights to continued services and assisted in a transition of care.

Please note: Healthy New York coverage does not include behavioral health benefits. CDPHN members, please check your ID card or benefits materials to see if your employer is working with an insurer other than CDPHN to deliver this coverage.
